Instructions for loading patch for Windows NT, 2000, and XP

Simple Instructions (for the computer-savvy)
Open the "Start" menu and choose "Find" (Windows NT), or "Search" (Windows 2000 and XP) to locate the original "RWT95app.exe" file on your hard drive (probably in the "tlcwin" folder, but not necessarily). If you have not already done so, download the file "RWT95app.zip" from www.readwritetype.com. Unzip this file to get a new version of "RWT95app.exe". Replace the original version of RWT95app.exe with the unzipped version by copying the unzipped version into the original folder. You should now be able to run Read, Write & Type normally.
Detailed Instructions for Windows XP (for the less computer-savvy)
- Find the original Read, Write, & Type! application file. This can be done as follows:
- Click on the "Start" menu or press the Windows shortcut key to open the start menu.
- Choose "Search", then "All Files or Folders..." from the dialog box that opens.
- In the text box titled "All or part of the file name:", type "RWT95app.exe" (don't actually type the quotation marks).
- If you know which disk drive that you installed Read, Write &Type!, then choose this using the pulldown menu entitled "Look In" (you may need to scroll down to see this option).
- Click on the "Search" button. If Read, Write, & Type! is installed on the given disk drive, then it will show up in the list in the right panel of the Search Results dialog. If it is not found, then change the disk drive in the "Look In" menu and try again.
- Once you have located the original "RWT95app.exe" file in the list, click on it to select it (don't double-click it).
- From under the "File" menu, choose "Open Containing Folder". A window containing the original file will open. Note that it will contain other files that share the same folder.
- Unzip the new file and copy it into the same folder as the original file:
- Unzip the new file by double clicking on the "RWT95app.zip" file that you downloaded from www.readwritetype.com. This should extract a new version of the "RWT95app.exe" file. Details for doing this may vary, but you should take note of the folder that the file get's unzipped into.
- Open the folder containing the new file.
- While holding down the control key (usually labeled "Ctrl"), click and drag the new file into the same folder as the original file. When you drop the new file into the original folder, you will be asked if you want to replace RWT95App.exe. Click on "Yes".
- You should now be able to run Read, Write & Type! normally.
